WINNIPEG - Winnipegs Jeff Stoughton defended his provincial curling title with an 8-3 victory over Winnipegs Mike McEwen on Sunday at Manitobas mens curling championship. With the victory, Stoughton and his Charleswood rink of Jon Mead, Reid Carruthers and Mark Nicholls earned Manitobas invitation to the Brier in Kamloops, B.C., this March. It will be Stoughtons 11th Brier appearance. He won in 1996, 1999, and most recently in 2011. Stoughton got off to a hot start, scoring three in the first end. He added two in the fourth and three more in the eighth and final end. McEwen and his team from the Fort Rouge Curling Club in Winnipeg, scored singles in the second, fifth, and seventh ends. Stoughton has now won the mens Manitoba championship 11 times overall. دیدن لینک ها برای شما امکان پذیر نیست. لطفا ثبت نام کنید یا وارد حساب خود شوید تا بتوانید لینک ها را ببینید.

.com) - Colorado may be ahead of the Vancouver Canucks in the Western Conference standings, but they are a club that the Avalanche may want to avoid in the playoffs.HOUSTON -- Houston rookie George Springer has had a month to remember. And hes not about to let up. Springer hit a tiebreaking two-run homer in the seventh inning, and the Astros extended their winning streak to six with a 3-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. Springers shot to left off Preston Guilmet (0-1) extended the rookies hitting streak to 11 games and was his seventh homer in his last seven games. The shot barely got over the left field wall. "I was screaming at it," Springer said. "I was saying Go, go, go and it went. So thank you, baseball." Springers 10 home runs in May extended his Astros rookie record and tied him for the third most long balls by a rookie in May with Jose Canseco, Wally Joyner and Walt Dropo. Mark McGwire set the rookie record for home runs in May with 15 in 1987. "What a guy," Houston manager Bo Porter said of Springer. "Its been pretty impressive. Its fun to watch. Its almost must-see TV." Springer said he was happy to help the Astros continue winning and gave a lot of credit to the man hitting before him in the lineup, Jose Altuve, who had three hits. "The guy thats on base, and its always Jose Altuve," Springer said of his late game poise. "Hes always on base, and with him on base, I understand that hes a threat. With him on base, if they miss, I have to hit it." Springer became the first Astros rookie to hit seven home runs in seven games and first Houston player to do it since Morgan Ensberg in 2006. Ensberg, however, hit his seven home runs over a six-game span. "Hes an exciting player," Porter said. "At any moment, he can change the game with one swing. It doesnt matter if hes 0 for 3 or 3 for 3, he has the ability to impact the game every time he steps into the batters box." Brad Peacock allowed a run on six hits with eight strikeouts in six innings. Peacock, who was scratched prior to his scheduled start May 24 at Seattle with forearm soreness, went six innings for the fifth straight start. Porter said it was the best Peacock had pitched all season. Peacock said it was the best he had felt all year, and he was able to locate his pitches. "I went out there, I wasnt scared," Peacock said. "I threw my fastball, the team came up with some big plays. Springer got the homer and the team got the win. Thats all you can ask for." Josh Fiellds (1-3) threw two scoreless innings for the win, and Chad Qualls pitched the ninth for his fourth save.dddddddddddd Ubaldo Jimenez allowed one run on three hits with eight strikeouts in six innings. Jimenez had struggled in his last two outings, allowing 10 runs in nine innings. "I was able to get a little bit deeper in the game and thats always good," Jimenez said. "Hopefully I get deeper than that in my next game. I felt good. I was able to be there for the team." Houston could not take capitalize with runners in scoring position, going 0 for 11 against Jimenez and finishing 1 for 15 with runners in scoring position with the lone hit being Springers home run. Nelson Cruz remained hot, extending his hit streak to 10 games with two hits, including an RBI single in the fourth that tied it at 1. The Orioles losing streak reached three games. "Its not always going to click together," Baltimore manager Buck Showalter said of the Orioles inconsistency of late. "Youre hoping one part of the game is good enough to offset another and we have for the most part. I have a lot of confidence that our best baseball is ahead of us. Tonight we just didnt swing the bats well enough Ubaldo deserved a better fate." Jason Castro scored from third on a wild pitch by Jimenez in the second on a close play at the plate to make it 1-0. After a 4 minute, 25 second review, the call was upheld -- Castro was safe. Jimenez, who had loaded the bases with one out on two walks and a single before Castro scored, escaped the inning by inducing groundouts to Robbie Grossman and Jonathan Villar. NOTES: Baltimore right-hander Tommy Hunter, on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to May 21 with a left groin strain, has been throwing on flat ground for four days and feels good, Showalter said. ... Orioles catcher Matt Wieters, on the 15-day DL since May 11 with a right elbow strain, is expected to start doing light tossing Friday, Showalter said. ... Houston will send lefty Brett Oberholtzer to the mound Friday against Baltimore right-hander Miguel Gonzalez in the annual Major League Baseball Civil Rights Game. There was a roundtable discussion Thursday and there will be a Beacon Awards Luncheon Friday. The Astros will wear the uniform of the Houston Eagles and the Orioles will wear the uniform of the Baltimore Elite Giants of the Negro Leagues for the game. ' ' '

With the NHL season getting underway today, Id like to take a moment and pay tribute to a unique group of Canadians. A group that is pretty much completely ignored in the vast, cultural mosaic that makes up Canada. Im talking about members of a minority group so marginalized, whose expression is so trampled upon that they are never reflected in this countrys music, poetry or literature. No one every pays them tribute or acknowledges their suffering, which lasts annually from September right up until June. Im speaking, of course, of those Canadians who hate hockey. We know its not easy to hear over and over again that the nation you live in is defined by the sport you cant stand. And, of course, trying to avoid hockey in Canada is a little like trying to avoid mosquitos in the forest. Except for you, hockey is more annoying. Well, Canadians who hate hockey, there are just so many things in this country you just have never experienced, nor care to experience. Youve never driven your kid to a rink at 7am. Youve never played shinny on a frozen pond on a winter day. Youve never read a Roy MacGregor book and you dont follow Bob McKenzie on Twitter. What about Saturday nights? Well, for you those have always meant college football doubleheaders, somewhere you can safely hide from the gospel of Don Cherry. We understand it drives you nuts that youve got to sit through a full series of Nashville-Columbus highlights before they get to the NBA games on the nightly sportscasts. And those features on small town rinks in Canadas hinterland dont warm your heart. They make you want to puke. Kind of like you feel when you hear Stompin Tom Connors recording of The Hockey Song. Yes, for you Canadians who hate hockey, we know you often feel lonely and isolated throughout the year. And we know there are days when you wish you were in South America... or somewhere like that. You dont get fired up for free agent frenzy on July 1st. The trade deadline for you is just another mundane Wednesday in February. And then theres the one you cant stand more than any other. Yes, Im talking about Hockey Day in Canada... or as you call to it, Black Saturday. Yes for you Canadians who hate hockey, we know how much it bugs you when youre visiting another country... and people want to know you what you think of PK Subban. And we sympathize every five years when its time for yet another tribute to that damn Team Canada 1972. But get ready, hockey hating Canadian, for its about to begin. The great onslaught that blankets this country from coast to coast is about to happen. As you are well aware, theres no point trying to hide. دیدن لینک ها برای شما امکان پذیر نیست. لطفا ثبت نام کنید یا وارد حساب خود شوید تا بتوانید لینک ها را ببینید.

.S. Basketball Writers Association. McDermott, who finished his career at Creighton as college basketballs fifth-leading scorer, accepted the honour from Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson at AT&T Stadium, site of the Final Four.BOSTON -- Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says the team is moving on after Luis Suarez departure to Barcelona for a $130 million transfer fee. "He gave everything for Liverpool," Rodgers said Tuesday when asked if Suarez had let the club down. "Of course there have been issues, but theyre in the past. He was a brilliant player for us and for me. ... Its a shame hes not here. But Liverpool, as a club, is bigger than any one player." The Uruguay national scored 82 goals in 133 Liverpool appearances. But his three years in England were overshadowed by bans for racial abuse and biting. He was suspended for four months by FIFA for biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini during the World Cup. Suarez cannot join his new team in Spain until after the suspension is over. Rodgers also said that Liverpool captain Steven Gerrardss retirement from the national team "brings an end to a great career.dddddddddddd" But it might be beneficial to Liverpool. "Liverpool means everything to him," Rodgers said. "And theres certainly no doubt missing out on international football means he will be fresher and at his optimum level as often as possible for us." Rodgers spoke at Fenway Park, the home of the Boston Red Sox, before the Reds practiced for Wednesday nights friendly against Roma. The 102-year-old baseball stadium was decked out for the game on Tuesday, with the pitch lined up from the third-base line to the right-field stands. The game between teams from England and Italy will have a local flavour: Liverpool is owned by Red Sox owner John Henry, and Roma is owned by NBA side the Boston Celtics minority owner Jim Pallotta. . On Friday night, after a long rain delay, he was scratched from his scheduled start.Mark Warburton says Niko Kranjcar will be able to handle the rough and tumble of Scottish football after coming through his first full 90 minutes for Rangers. The 31-year-old scored his first goal for the Ibrox side in the 3-0 win over Stranraer as they rounded off their Betfred Cup group-stage schedule with a fourth straight victory.Kranjcar was left wincing after midfielder Ryan Thomson careered through the back of his legs near the end of the game but, despite ending up in a heap, there was no damage done to the former Tottenham and Portsmouth playmaker. Rangers manager Mark Warburton has no concerns over Kranjcar looking after himself in Scotland And his manager brushed off suggestions his summer signing needs greater protection from referees ahead of Rangers Scottish Premiership campaign, which gets underway against Hamilton on Sky Sports 1 on August 6.It was a bad tackle but he got up, so hes fine, touch wood, Warburton said. You dont play 80 caps for Croatia [if you need protecting], he can look after himself, dont worry about that. That was a bad tackle but we move on from it. Kranjcar finished off the scoring for Rangers at Ibrox Niko was good tonight, he got through the 90 although he tired after 75 minutes but hes working on that.If Warburton is looking to add extra steel to his midfield he loooks to have found it in the shape of former Liverpool youngster Jordan Rossiter.ddddddddddddThe England youth international made his debut as a second-half substitute just days after returning from action at the U19s European Championships and wasted little time getting stuck into a few meaty challenges and impressing Warburton. We need that ruggedness in midfield.Martyn Waghorn struck two first half goals before Kranjcar finished off the scoring after the interval to confirm Rangers place in the last 16 of the new-look League Cup. Rangers Martyn Waghorn celebrates his second goal against Stranraer There were lots of positives tonight, Warburton added. Joey Barton got an hour, Jordan got 30 minutes, while Niko and Harry Forrester got through 90 minutes. All the squad have had good pitch time now, four games in nine days and weve come through unscathed in terms of injury. Weve had four clean sheets, so lots of positives. Also See: Kranjcar nets in Rangers win Dodoo: That was just the start Warburton: We can challenge Celtic Rangers fixtures ' ' '

JACKSON, Miss. -- Mississippis only PGA Tour event plans to move to Country Club of Jackson, ending a 20-year relationship with Annandale Golf Club. The Sanderson Farms Championship has been played at Annandale in Madison, Miss., which is a suburb of Jackson, since 1994. This years tournament is scheduled for Nov. 6-9. The move is pending approval by the PGA Tours Policy Board on April 29, according to a statement from the tournament. Sanderson Farms CEO Joe Sanderson said in the statement he appreciated Annandales "unwavering support of this tournament" but that a move to the Country Club of Jackson "will allow the tournament to raise more money for Friends of Childrens Hospital, the tournaments main beneficiary." This years tournament will be the same week as the World Golf Championship-HSBC Champions in China. دیدن لینک ها برای شما امکان پذیر نیست. لطفا ثبت نام کنید یا وارد حساب خود شوید تا بتوانید لینک ها را ببینید.

. TSN Hockey Insiders Pierre LeBrun and Bob McKenzie both reported Thursday that there have been ongoing trade discussions between the Oilers and Los Angeles Kings over forward Sam Gagner. Not many outside the International team room are giving the squad from the rest of the world much of a chance in this years Presidents Cup and looking at the records of the 24 players involved, you can understand that stance. On paper, it looks a little like Andre the Giant taking on a midget wrestler. It has all the makings of a rout with the Americans adding an eighth win in nine outings of this biennial event. The Yanks have eight players in the top 15 in the world while the Internationals have just one. Every golfer wearing a U.S. uniform is inside the top 30 while only six of the Rest Of The Worlders are there. The International team also has seven first timers while only one American golfer – Jordan Spieth – hasnt been on either a Ryder or Presidents Cup team. Maybe its finally time to bring in the handicap system to professional golf. You know, put some saddle bags on Tiger Woods or perhaps let the Internationals play it forward. "I mean, I understand that and how it looks on paper," said Adam Scott, the highest-ranked International player. "Its hard to write off guys who are the Top 60 in the world, because on any given day, anyone can beat anyone and weve seen that a million times, especially in 18-hole match play. Yeah, I see how that looks. I also see seven guys here for the first time pumped up and ready to go, and I think thats giving me a great feeling about a new experience in The Presidents Cup after having a run of really, some big defeats. The atmosphere in our room is great this year." The Americans can, in some ways, sympathize. They have been regular punching bags of the Europeans at the Ryder Cup of late, including a humiliating Sunday loss last year in Chicago. But theyre not about to roll over just so this tournament can get some legs. "Regardless of what past results have been," said Phil Mickelson, "its a tournament we very much want to win, we very much want to play welll in, and we want to represent the United States with class and pride in a way that everybody can be proud.dddddddddddd So we want to play well, and past performance has nothing to do with it." "I think everybody on our team realizes weve got a tough test in front of us," said Brandt Snedeker, who will partner with Hunter Mahan to take on Canadas Graham DeLaet and Jason Day. "I think we realize all these guys except for probably Matsuyama is probably the guy we know the least about. The rest of the guys we play on a regular basis. We see them a lot and realize how good theyre playing, and these guys are by no means the underdogs theyre trying to make themselves out to be." Captain Nick Price isnt as worried about winning the Cup as he is in making it close, something that hasnt happened lately. Of course hed like to win and to do that, hell need to find a way to keep things from getting out of reach before the Sunday singles. "I think more important than anything else, this Presidents Cup needs to be very competitive," said Price. "Because in the past, the last four Presidents Cups, you can argue either way, but I honestly believe they have not been that competitive." Not competitive? The Internationals havent just been losing, theyve been getting hammered. Since they tied in South Africa in 2003, theyve lost by three points, five points, five points and four points. Not exactly nail-biting stuff. For the Internationals to make a game of this, theyll need to rely on the naivety of their rookies who, as Graham DeLaet pointed out this week, dont know what they dont know, and some exceptional play from the veterans such as Scott and Ernie Els. You never say never in a game like golf, but certainly this would be an upset of monumental proportions. While the odds may be long, the upside of a win would be ever-so sweet. In sports, theres nothing like kicking a little U.S. butt. ' ' '

MAR DEL PLATA, Argentina -- Italy reached the quarterfinals of the Davis Cup on Sunday when Fabio Fognini defeated Carlos Berlocq of Argentina to give Italy an unassailable 3-1 lead in the best-of-five series. Fognini defeated Berlocq 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-1, 6-4 in 3 hours, 38 minutes. It was Italys first victory over Argentina in Davis Cup play, and the loss ended Argentinas 12-year streak of reaching the quarterfinals. "It was a perfect weekend," Fognini said. "We knew that Argentina was a tough team, but I was very focused mentally." Italy took control on Saturday when doubles pair Fognini and Simone Bolelli defeated Argentinas Eduardo Schwank and Horacio Zeballos. Italy won its lone Davis Cup title in 1976. Argentina has never won and has lost four times in the final. Argentina played the weekend matches without its top player Juan Martin del Potro, who is skipping the Davis Cup to concentrate on tour events. Argentinas other top player David Nalbandian retired last year. دیدن لینک ها برای شما امکان پذیر نیست. لطفا ثبت نام کنید یا وارد حساب خود شوید تا بتوانید لینک ها را ببینید.

"Rob brings a wealth of coaching experience, having worked both in Canada and overseas in player development," Canada Soccer technical director Tony Fonseca said in a release.SAN FRANCISCO - Pablo Sandoval singled in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning, lifting the San Francisco Giants to a 2-1 victory over the rival Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday night and into first place in the NL West. The struggling Sandoval came through after reliever J.P. Howell (1-1) intentionally walked Hunter Pence with two outs. Sandoval, who entered the game batting just .164, grounded into centre field to score Joaquin Arias from second. Jean Machi (3-0) pitched out of a bases-loaded jam earlier in the seventh for the win. Buster Posey broke an 0-for-13 skid with an RBI single in the third to give the Giants a 1-0 lead. Dee Gordons tying triple in the sixth accounted for the Dodgers lone run. Los Angeles at least dodged worse news. Shortstop Hanley Ramirez left in the seventh after getting hit by a pitch from Ryan Vogelsong on the top of his left hand. The team said X-rays on Ramirezs hand were negative. Sergio Romo pitched a perfect ninth for his fourth save, striking out Adrian Gonzalez and Matt Kemp to end the game. Vogelsong allowed the one run and four hits in six-plus innings to help the Giants win their third straight game. He struck out two and walked two to match Paul Maholm most of the way. Maholm gave up one run and five hits in six innings. He struck out two and walked three to rebound from a loss in his only other start this season on April 5, when he allowed five runs in 4 1-3 innings to the Giants. San Francisco improved to 4-1 against the Dodgers this season in a race that could remain tight through the summer. Both teams began the day with a 9-5 record. The starting pitchers kept the game moving at a far brisker pacee than the nearly 5-hour contest Tuesday night that ended when Hector Sanchez singled home the winning run with two outs in the 12th inning to give the Giants the win.dddddddddddd The biggest blemish came when Vogelsong hit the top of Ramirezs left hand to open the seventh. Ramirez slammed his helmet to the ground and hopped around in pain before being replaced by Justin Turner. After the Dodgers loaded the bases with one out, Machi fielded a hard comebacker from Juan Uribe to start a home-to-first double play. The biggest hold up came from baseballs new replay system after Vogelsong pick of Kemp at first base in the second inning. Dodgers manager Don Mattingly challenge the play, which umpires upheld after a 4:25 video review that drew light boos from some fans during the wait. NOTES: Dodgers ace and reigning NL Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw, who is on the disabled list with a strained muscle in his back, threw breaking balls off flat ground. He is scheduled to throw off a mound Thursday. ... An MRI on Dodgers RHP Chad Billingsley showed no ligament damage in his elbow, Mattingly said. Billingsley has some tendinitis that will delay his recovery. ... Giants SS Brandon Crawford sat out with tightness in his right hamstring but said he expects to play Thursday. ... The Giants activated lefty reliever Jeremy Affeldt (sprained right knee) from the 15-day disabled list and optioned OF Juan Perez to Triple-A Fresno. ... Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig entered in the seventh and grounded out in the eighth. ... Giants LHP Madison Bumgarner (2-0, 3.31 ERA) takes the mound opposite Dodgers LHP Hyun-Jin Ryu (2-1, 2.57 ERA) in Thursdays series finale. ' ' '

Winnipeg Jets 5 Calgary Flames 3 (Jets 37-35-10, Road 19-18-4) – It was a short-staffed Jets team that was playing on back to back nights that found a way to win the game and end the season with back to back wins. It was the first time the Jets have won back to back games since wins over Phoenix and Nashville coming out of the Olympic break. Starting the game without 10 regulars, the Jets lost Jacob Trouba in the first period and Jim Slater in the second period due to injury. Trouba was hit in the throat by a deflected puck, while Slater suffered a broken finger. Michael Hutchinson, in just his third NHL game, was again very good, especially in the third stopping all 18 shots he faced. The Jets took a 2-0 lead after one period on goals by Michael Frolik (15th) from Trouba and Mark Stuart at 7:23, and Evander Kane (19th) from Bryan Little and Adam Pardy. Kane finishes the season with goals in back to back games, the goal being his 200th NHL point. Shots in the first were 14-8 for the Jets. The Flames got on the board early in the second on a goal from Jiri Hudler, but Carl Klingberg, with his first NHL goal, restored the two goal lead for Winnipeg. Patrice Cormier and Zach Redmond drew assists on the Klingberg goal. The Jets then ran into penalty trouble and for the first time in 10 occasions this season gave up a goal while down two men as Sean Monahan scored his 22nd of the season, and 24 seconds later the game was tied on Chris Russells seventh of the year, also a power play goal. Shots in the second were 12-5 for Calgary as the tough skate Wednesday and playing the night before seemed to be catching up to the Jets. The Flames needed something out of this game to finish above .500 at home, and with aggressive fore-checking took advantage of a tired Jets team. But Hutchinson shut the door, his best save off Kenny Agostino, a glove save on a one on one situation. Paul Postma with his first of the season put the Jets back in front. Cormier, with his first career two-point game, and Anthony Peluso drew assists. The Flames pulled goaltender Karri Ramo while on a late power play, but Blake Wheeler, with his 28th, into an empty net ended it. Shots in the third were 18-8 Calgary and 38-27 for the Flames over the game. Stuart led the Jets in ice time at 24:25, Slater won 11 of 12 face-offs before leaving the game and Cormier won nine of 12. Hutchison stopped 83 of 88 shots in his three games for a save percentage of .943 and record of 2-1. Coach Paul Maurice was very proud of his squad. “With three minutes left in the second, we had nothing left. Then we found a way to win. Our goalie made some great saves. Losing Trouba and Slater did not help.” And on his team, “they played for each other. They care about each other. There is a lot of the right kind of people in the room. What excites me about this team is the room.” Exit meetings with players will be held this weekend and into next week, with all the call-ups on their way back to St. Johns, while others will be asked to compete for their country at the World Championship in Belarus in May. GM Kevin Cheveldayoff will address the media Wednesday. . Will Venable and Ryan Ludwick drove in a run each for the Padres, who have taken six of their last seven contests and clinched their third straight series win after winning the first two in this set. Clayton Richard (4-9) allowed five hits and a pair of runs over seven innings, while fanning five.EDMONTON -- The Edmonton Eskimos season has been bad, but at least they prevented it from being history book bad. Fred Stamps reeled in a pair of touchdown passes as the Eskimos snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 25-7 victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Saturday. Edmonton (2-9) won for their first time at Commonwealth Stadium this season, avoiding a new team record for consecutive losses at home in a game between the CFLs two worst teams. The Eskimos also avoided tying records for most losses in a row at nine set in 1963 and for the worst start to a season set in 1971. "Weve been so close so many times, only to fall short," said Eskimos quarterback Mike Reilly, who threw three touchdown passes and rushed for 113 yards. "You cant help but start to wonder if it is ever going to happen. To finally come out and put together a good performance and be in control of the game for pretty much all four quarters was a nice change-up. We still have a lot to improve on though." Eskimos linebacker J.C. Sherritt hopes that finally getting a win may lead the team in the other direction. "Luckily we got all the bad out early," he said. "There is a lot of season to be played and I think everyone who watches the CFL knows how weird it can get. We just have to keep this going now." The Blue Bombers dropped to 2-9 and continued to struggle trying to capture back-to-back wins, having gone more than two years since the last time they were able to. "It was a comedy of errors," said Winnipeg head coach Tim Burke. "We had way too many turnovers. I think our calls on defence didnt help our players out and I am just as much to blame for that. We just did dumb things all throughout the game." Edmonton caught a big break early in the game as it appeared that Bomber Demond Washington had scored a 77-yard punt return touchdown after the Eskimos went three-and-out on their opening drive. However, the play came back on a holding penalty. The penalty proved even more pivotal two plays later as Winnipeg starting quarterback Justin Goltz had the ball pop loose after a hit by Donovan Alexander and J.C. Sherritt scooped it up at the Edmonton 51. The Eskimos quickly marched down field and scored on an eight-yard passing play from Reilly to Stamps. It was the first time that Edmonton scored a first-quarter touchdown since their Week 2 victory over Hamilton. The Eskimos added a 25-yard Hugh ONeill field goal with four minute left in the opening frame to lead 10-0. Edmontons defence came up big again with three minutes remaining in the first as Chris Rwabukamba picked off a Goltz pass at the Eskimo 51-yard-line. The interceeption eventually set up a 16-yard TD reception by Adarius Bowman.dddddddddddd Edmonton led 17-0 at the end of a first quarter that saw Goltz and the Bombers record negative two passing yards. The second quarter had a much more sedate start as Winnipeg put their first points on the board, as Sandro DeAngelis kicked a 17-yard field goal with two minutes left to make it 17-3. However, the Eskimos quickly countered one minute later as a 45-yard QB keeper by Reilly set up a 25-yard pass into the end zone for Stamps second touchdown on the game and a 24-3 Edmonton lead at the half. Max Hall came into quarterback the Bombers to start the third and briefly sparked the offence before being intercepted in the end zone by Edmonton defensive back Chris Thompson. Winnipeg had a single on a missed field-goal attempt late in the third quarter to make it 24-4. The Eskimos had a punt single early in the fourth before Winnipeg countered with a field goal. The game wound down with an incredibly odd play. The Bombers tried a third down gamble deep in Edmonton territory but the snap was nowhere near the quarterback and the charging Edmonton defenders kicked it down the field. Marcus Howard picked it up and then threw it over his head to Eric Samuels, who looked to have scored a touchdown. The play was called back on an interference call, although Edmonton got possession and was able to run out the clock. The mistake still irked Burke. "I dont know why we snapped the ball when we did it," he said. "It was just different things like that all throughout the game that cost us." The two teams will face each other in a rematch on Friday in Winnipeg. Notes: The Esks and Bombers have split the last five season series. No team has swept the series since 2006 ... Winnipeg was coming off an emotional 25-13 victory over league-leading Saskatchewan ... Reilly entered the game with a 2-10 record in career CFL starts and was facing Winnipeg for first time ... Edmonton had a ton of players return to action for the game, as middle linebacker J.C. Sherritt, defensive ends Odell Willis and Brandon Lang, tailback Hugh Charles and safety Donovan Alexander came back from injuries ... It was the Bombers first game since the trade of veteran quarterback Buck Pierce to the Lions in exchange for Canadian receiver Akeem Foster ... Esks offensive lineman Simeon Rottier, who was called out by general manager Ed Hervey for his poor play in the Labour Day loss to Calgary, returned to the Edmonton lineup ... Winnipeg failed in its attempt to capture its 600th victory in franchise history (599-550-14) and to join Edmonton as the only two clubs to make it to that plateau. ' ' '

SOCHI, Russia – It was the third game of the Olympics for the Canadians in Torino, Italy when the wall of Martin Gerber emerged in shocking fashion. Gerber stopped each and every one of the 49 shots peppered by Team Canada en route to a highly improbable 2-0 victory for Switzerland. In a two-week tournament like the Olympics, goaltending performances of that caliber have the potential to shock, rattle and awe even the most powerful foes, hindering medal hopes with save after unlikely save. Eight years after Gerber shook up what was an ultimately doomed 2006 Canadian bid – they finished seventh – lies another Swiss goaltender in Jonas Hiller capable of doing the same, if not more, at the Sochi Olympics. "Every year at a tournament like this you need a good goalkeeper to have success," said Andreas Ambuhl, a winger for Switzerland and teammate of Hiller for years with Davos in the Swiss League, "especially a team like us." Switzerland is still buzzing from a silver medal finish at the 2013 World Championships – the now 39-year-old Gerber teaming with Calgary netminder Reto Berra – and though they have no grand illusions about their chances at these Olympics, possession of a goaltender like Hiller poses at least the possibility of a little unlikely noise. Hiller is back to top form in Anaheim after a couple bumpy seasons punctuated by injuries. The 31-year-old stopped 36 of 38 shots in his final game before the Olympics and owns a .943 save percentage in his last five starts. "Theres no doubt," said Swiss head coach Sean Simpson, a Canadian and former Chicago Blackhawks draft pick who has yet to actually coach Hiller during his four-year run as bench boss of Switzerlands national program. "Any of the goalies, they stand on their head they can make a difference in a one-game scenario thats for sure." Simpson would consider a trip to the quarterfinals as success for his squad, which sits in a group with Sweden, Latvia and the Czech Republic. In the past 50 years the Swiss have never finished higher than sixth which they managed during that unlikely 06 run with Gerber at the forefront. Sizzling efforts in goal have the potential to alter the face of the Olympics, both for powerhouses like Canada, who must decide between Carey Price and Roberto Luongo, and lesser limelight squads like the Swiss. Its why Finland still holds dark-horse medal potential despite losing potential captain Mikko Koivu and second centre Valteri Filpulla to injury. With Tuukka Rask, Antii Niemi and Kari Lehtonen as sterling options between the pipes, the Finns have the goods in goal to rattle more than a few cages. It was during those same 06 Olympics in Torino that then-Flyers goaltender and Finnish product Antero Niittymaki carried his country to a silver medal – they fell to Sweden, who was led by Henrik Lundqvist – leading the tournament with a mighty .951 save percentage. One need only remember the heroic efforts of Dominik Hasek in 1998. Hasek allowed just six goals in Nagano – posting a crazy .971 save percentage – willing the Czech Republic to their first and only gold medal. "Theres going to be lots of strong goalies here," said Simpson. "Jonas, hes got a great personality and hes going to give the team a lot of confidence when hes in net there for sure." دیدن لینک ها برای شما امکان پذیر نیست. لطفا ثبت نام کنید یا وارد حساب خود شوید تا بتوانید لینک ها را ببینید.

. The game had many controversial incidents that, upon closer inspection, were not as controversial as many believed. The Formations Toronto FC lined up in its usual 4-4-2 formation, with Nick Hagglund slotting in at right fullback and Bradley Orr at centreback in place of the injured Mark Bloom and Steven Caldwell, respectively. ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Preparations for the IndyCar Series opener began with a silly spat between the two top organizations over a perceived slight made by the president of Team Penske. The dig -- Tim Cindric compared Penske to the New York Yankees and Target/Chip Ganassi Racing to the Miami Marlins -- irritated the Ganassi camp and created some drama heading into the race Sunday. When the checkered flag waived, it was Penske driver Will Power in the winners circle. With teammate Helio Castroneves finishing third, Team Penske drivers claimed two spots on the podium and fired the opening salvo in the rivalry. "Ive only heard a little bit of that story, so I havent paid much attention," Power said. "Are the Marlins good? Do they win?" Ganassi drivers Scott Dixon, the defending series champion, finished fourth and Tony Kanaan was sixth in his debut for the team. So with Verizon-sponsored driver Power on top of the podium in the first race with Verizon on board as the series sponsor, and Castroneves on the podium with him, round one easily went to Team Penske. "We dont want to give an inch this year," said Castroneves, who lost the championship to Dixon last season. "We dont want to give any opportunity. We want to give the championship to Roger no matter what it takes." Ganassi has won five of the last six championships, and Penske last won in 2006. It was fitting that the win went to Power, who picked up right where he left off last season. He won three of the final five IndyCar races last season -- including the last two -- and his Sunday win at St. Pete gives the Australian four out of the last six victories. Power passed pole-sitter Takuma Sato for the lead with an outside move headed into the second turn on Lap 31, and was never really challenged again. He had to beat Castroneves off pit lane during stops under caution, and the only hiccup was on the first restart of the race. He was the leader andd was slow to restart the field with 28 laps remaining.ddddddddddddIt caused traffic to stack-up behind him and led to a crash involving rookie Jack Hawksworth and Marco Andretti. Andretti got out of his car with a limp and was favouring his wrist following the accident. "Its hard to see because I was pretty far back, but Will just stopped. Once you go, you gotta go," he said. "It looked like an accordion effect. I had a good restart going, but we were junk all day, so what are you going to do?" Hawksworth blamed the accident on the leaders stopping at the front of the field. "We went when they said green, and all of a sudden the leaders stopped. I dont know what was going on at the front," the rookie said. Power said he never braked and was confused because the field went green earlier than it should. "They actually threw the green before I was even in the (restart) zone, so it was confusing to me," Power said. Castroneves didnt buy Powers version and said he was fooled by his teammate. "Will and I know each other for a long time. He knows my tricks," Castroneves said. "I didnt quite know that trick from him, and he got me." IndyCar said the restart in question was acceptable, but race control did review Powers second restart and issued him a warning for going too early. He was not penalized, but IndyCar said he will be if he does it again. Juan Pablo Montoya finished 15th in his return to IndyCar for the first time since he left for Formula One following his Indianapolis 500 win in 2000. He spent almost five seasons in F1 and seven in NASCAR before returning to open-wheel with Roger Penske. "I think it went pretty good," he said. "We will learn and pass some people and some people passed us. There are a few things we have to do better, but I didnt feel my pace was too bad there at the end. Its going to be a lot of work but I am very excited." ' ' '

Jason Day was relieved to bounce back from a slow start to claim a narrow win at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and close the gap on Jordan Spieth at the top of the world rankings. The PGA champion survived a rollercoaster final round to complete a wire-to-wire victory at Bay Hill, with a two-under 70 helping him to finish one-stroke clear of nearest challenger Kevin Chappell.Day let a three-shot lead over the front nine during a day where four players held at least a share of the lead, but posted two birdies after the turn and holed a four-foot putt for victory at the last. Victory lifts Day above McIlroy in to second spot in the world rankings and means he could move to world No 1 at next weeks WGC-Dell Match Play, but the Australian admits he had to dig deep to see out a first win of 2016. Day was greeted by tournament host Arnold Palmer after his final round Sleeping on a two-shot lead and winning wire-to-wire wasnt easy, Day told Sky Sports. This was a really rewarding win for me and to be able to make the par at the last when I needed to was very satisfying. There was not one shot on the golf course I hit today where I felt comfortable.I tried to be as deliberate as possible and it worked out on the back side for me. I was really nervous over that putt [on 18] after being out of contention for a while. Day posted two birdies in a blemish-free back nine I was all out of sorts on the front side but I kept saying to myself over and over again you are not out of it, be patient, you will find some opening and once you do make sure you take it, and 17 was it.The biggest thing for me was to be able to feel being in contention again and to be able to get all of those competitive juices flowing again through my body and understand what that feels like.Encouraging signsAdam Scott missed out on the chance of becoming the first player since Rory McIlroy to win three consecutive PGA Tour events, with the Australian finishing another positive week in a tie for 12th. Scott had won the Honda Classic and the WGC-Cadillac Championship in his past two starts The world No 6 slipped out of contention with a final-hole triple-bogey on Saturday and made a similar mess of the 18th during his final round, ending a three-under 69 with a double-bogey.Its a little disappointing, Scott told Sky Sports. I really played better than my score showed this week and thats a positive sign.I felt I could have been up there, even though things werent quite firing in all cylinders like they were in the past couple of weeks. Scott had won the Honda Classic and the WGC-Cadillac Championship in his past two starts I really wasted a lot on 18! Yesterday was really difficult conditions and I was a bit unfortunate to plug in a bunker, but todays was just a poor shot.Ive been putting really well. Today was a bit spotty where I hit some good putts but a few that came up surprisingly short coming in. All in all Ive made a lot of putts and thats a really good thing for the confidence. The confidence then builds with the results and now its all in a good spot, so Ive just got to maintain it the best I can and keep going. The PGA Tour heads to Texas next for the WGC-Dell Match Play.
