David Hearn is a little light on major championship experience, having played just three previous times in the big four tournaments. And hes also quite green when it comes to links golf, as in hes never been on a next-to-the-sea course. Heck, hed never even been to Europe before the charter plane from the John Deere touched down on Monday morning. Even that was a bit of a last-minute decision as Hearn was on the alternate list, moving up spot by spot until he reached the first position before he decided to make the trip. So its safe to say that the golfer from Brantford, Ont., has immersed himself in all things links in his short time here; call it a major cram session. "Its been a lot of fun for me," said Hearn, who got into the field late Tuesday after former champion Mark Calcavecchia pulled out. "Its different than anything Ive seen. Coming over here I definitely have a lot to learn quickly, but Im trying not to do too much, too fast. Im just trying to take it a little bit at a time." As first alternate, Hearn was treated with complete access to the course and all other amenities afforded to the players in the field. He walked the course on Monday and then played a practice round Tuesday and 14 holes Wednesday. He was impressed with Royal Liverpool and the demands it placed on shotmaking. "Ive just enjoyed this style of golf," he said while being pelted with a light rain that fell Wednesday. "Theres not a single tree on this property and its been a lot of fun just trying to hit some creative shots." The biggest challenge for Hearn this week is obviously adapting to the golf course. Its truly unlike anything hes played before in a tournament and while hes having fun, hes also getting to experience something very new. "Our firmest courses that we play in North America arent even close to the way this course plays so here," he stated. "Its a matter of trying to figure out how long the ball is going to release. Were used to flying it and stopping it a lot. So this week Ive been spending a lot of time figuring out, how far is a wedge going to release, how long is a 5-irong going to release." Hearn comes into the Open playing some of the best golf of his career. Hes had three top-10 finishes including a tie for sixth at the Players, and collected more than $1 million. He took some time off recently before returning to the Tour for the Greenbrier and the John Deere Classic, an event he nearly won a year ago. Hes now refreshed and ready to go in the Tours closing stretch, which will be an arduous campaign. "I feel good," Hearn admitted. "I had a really good break. I took three weeks off before coming back to Greenbrier. I havent played great since I came back – I played pretty average but I felt my game was really close at the Greenbrier and again last I week I felt it was really close. Obviously the scoring here is going to be a little bit different than the last couple of weeks but Im looking forward to it. I think my game is ready for it." And if he seems just a tad bit enthusiastic, forgive the guy. After all, this is like a dream come true. "Ive been a pro for 13 years and this is my first opportunity Ive had to play in the Open Championship so I was very excited to get over here and Im thrilled to be in the tournament. Its a big highlight for me." Hearn will also get dipped right into the fire on Thursday – hes teeing off alongside Sir Nick Faldo and Todd Hamilton, both past Open champions just after 10 am local time. دیدن لینک ها برای شما امکان پذیر نیست. لطفا ثبت نام کنید یا وارد حساب خود شوید تا بتوانید لینک ها را ببینید.

. Portuguese sides Benfica and Porto also advanced to the last eight while Basel overcame an early red card to win 2-1 at Salzburg and progress from a last-16 second leg that was briefly suspended because of crowd trouble. Lyon, Valencia and AZ Alkmaar will also be in Fridays draw in Nyon, Switzerland, where the team to avoid will be Juventus -- even though the Italian champions made heavy work of their all-Italian last-16 match against Fiorentina.ANAHEIM, Calif. - Matt Beleskey was a pugnacious grinder for most of his NHL career until this season, when he has surprised just about everybody by becoming the Anaheim Ducks leading goal-scorer.The Ducks needed every bit of Beleskeys newfound scoring touch to edge Martin Brodeur and the St. Louis Blues.Beleskey scored the tiebreaking goal midway through the third period, while Ryan Kesler and Sami Vatanen had two assists in the Ducks 4-3 victory Friday night. After St. Louis rallied three times to erase a one-goal Anaheim lead in the first two periods, Beleskey beat Brodeur with a vicious wrist shot for his 16th goal with 9:05 to play. The NHL-leading Ducks hung on for their ninth consecutive home victory over St. Louis since October 2009.He stopped me a few times early, said Beleskey, who had a goal and an assist in his second multipoint game of the year. Luckily, I got that one through. I tried his glove a couple of times tonight, and he baits you with the glove. But Ive scored on his blocker side before.Beleskey credits his surge to confidence and Kesler, his centre on Anaheims second line.Hes always had a tremendous shot and release, and hes never had confidence, Anaheim coach Bruce Boudreau said. Its just his natural maturation, his growth.Ryan Getzlaf, Kyle Palmieri and Andrew Cogliano also scored for the Ducks, who are 2-1 on their eight-game homestand. They won a game by one goal for the 16th time in their last 18 victories. Were used to this situation, and we know what we have to do in the third period, Boudreau said.Frederik Andersen made 39 saves to earn his 41st career victory — just 650 fewer than Brodeur.Kevin Shattenkirk and Alexander Steen each had a goal and an assist for the Blues, who have lost six of seven despite a lively effort in Anaheim.Tonight, we took a step forward despite the loss, St. Louis coach Ken Hitchcock said. I still think that we were better as a team this game. ... We did a good job putting pucks in their zone and establishing our game.dddddddddddd We just have to find that goal in the third that puts us ahead.Brodeur stopped 29 shots and was impressive for long stretches in what could conceivably be his final start for the Blues. The NHLs career victories leader joined St. Louis and played his way into shape while Brian Elliott was out with an injury, but the Blues have three goalies after Elliott returned this week.Brodeur was in solid form, even stacking his pads for a couple of saves with a move that looked a little bit like the old Marty there, he said with a grin.I thought we had a great effort and we scored three goals, but I think on the defensive side of the puck, we made a few mistakes that they capitalized on, Brodeur added. Theyre a good hockey team. You just cant give up anything for free, and we did today.Getzlaf backhanded home his first power-play goal since Nov. 7 in the opening minutes, ending an 0-for-21 power-play drought for Anaheim. After T.J. Oshie tied it, Anaheim went back ahead when Kesler put the puck on net despite being on his knees with his back to Brodeur, allowing Palmieri to tip it home. After Cogliano scored his second goal since Nov. 20, Steen tied it again during a 5-on-3 advantage after Vatanen shot the puck 190 feet over the far glass. Steen finished with 11 shots.Colin Fraser made his debut for the Blues, who signed the three-time Stanley Cup champion as a free agent before the season. The grinding forward spent the past three seasons with the Los Angeles Kings, getting a championship ring and a playoff share even though he didnt appear in any post-season games last spring.NOTES: Palmieri returned to Anaheims lineup after a six-game absence with a shoulder injury. ... St. Louis F Jaden Schwartz missed his seventh straight game with an injury, but participated in the morning skate. He could return Saturday at San Jose. ... Beleskey got his 100th NHL point on Palmieris goal. ' ' '
