The NBAs life ban for Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling won swift support in Europe but also produced calls for soccer to show similar resolve against racism. FIFA president Sepp Blatter and UEFA president Michel Platini, via his spokesman, both voiced approval on Wednesday. Blatter tweeted: "Sport says no to racism. I fully support (at)NBAs decision to ban (at)LAClippers owner for life after his racist words." Patrick Vieira, a 1998 World Cup winner with France, also tweeted: "Well done to (at)NBA, another organisation dealing with racism in exactly the right way. I say again - zero tolerance." NBA Commissioner Adam Silver wants Sterling to sell as part of a series of sanctions brought against the leagues longest-tenured owner in response to racist comments in a recorded conversation. Silver banned Sterling for life, fined him $2.5 million, and said he will press the other team owners to support his desire to make Sterling sell. For some in Europe, the NBAs resolve was in stark contrast to soccer leaders failure to eradicate racism that has dogged stadiums and marred matches for decades. Just last weekend, a Villarreal season-ticket holder racially taunted Barcelona defender Dani Alves by throwing a banana at him. Retired British NBA player John Amaechi noted that players, executives and owners in the American league appeared united in their rejection of Sterling. "If they can do that to respond to a hateful private utterance, why the hell cant football do that to respond to repeated instances of hate-mongering?" Amaechi said in a phone interview with The Associated Press. "Its time that we started looking at some of the owners within other parts of sport," outside the NBA, he said. "Theyre exactly the type of plantation mentality people who dont mind having black people working for them ... But God forbid that they want to come up to the big house." Amaechi said he doesnt expect the NBAs exemplary punishment of Sterling will jolt soccer into meaningful change. And Blatters tweet of support for the NBA was "not enough," he added. "If there was a poster-person for the words impotence and apathy, it would have his face on it," Amaechi said. "You know what theyre going to do? Theyre going to produce another pretty poster with platitudes plastered all over it. Theyre going to produce another campaign that has a black player stood next to a white player," he said. "Nothing substantive." FIFA and UEFA, the European authority, have toughened their sanctions for discrimination in the past year and prosecuted cases more quickly. A turning point in awareness of widespread problems with offensive abuse at matches came in January 2013 when Kevin-Prince Boateng, then playing for AC Milan, led teammates walking off the field to protest racist insults during an exhibition against a fourth-tier Italian side. FIFA and UEFA have ordered national and club teams to play matches in empty or partly closed stadiums as punishment for racial abuse incidents, but no World Cup or Champions League team has yet had points deducted or forfeited a match. Among the most severe judgments, FIFA has banned Croatia defender Josip Simunic for 10 matches -- including the 2014 World Cup -- for leading fans in chanting a Nazi-era nationalist slogan after a playoff victory against Iceland last November. Simunic has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. دیدن لینک ها برای شما امکان پذیر نیست. لطفا ثبت نام کنید یا وارد حساب خود شوید تا بتوانید لینک ها را ببینید.

. Ibrahimovic put PSG ahead when he got in front of his marker to neatly flick in Lucass cross in the 59th minute. New signing Yohan Cabaye came on as a second-half substitute and headed Ezequiel Lavezzis cross against the post in the 87th. Moments later, Lucas set up another goal from the right when fellow countryman Alex turned in his corner with a strikers finish.Peter Horachek knows his promotion to interim Toronto coach wont immediately solve the Maple Leafs current on-ice problems, but like his players, believes it can happen. Looking to avoid a season-high fourth straight defeat, the Maple Leafs face another serious challenge Friday night when they host the surging Columbus Blue Jackets. Viewers and listeners in the Leafs region can catch all the action LIVE on TSN4 and TSN Radio 1050 with coverage beginning at 7pm et. Though Toronto (21-17-3) held a 33-26 shot advantage and didnt allow an opponent to score on the power play for the first time in six contests Wednesday, it fell for the eighth time in 10 games, 6-2 to Washington in the first game since Tuesdays firing of coach Randy Carlyle. There were some good things, Horachek said. Weve got to eliminate those issues where were making things happen to ourselves. But we did a lot of things that we wanted to do and sometimes its just going to be harder at first than we want it to be, to get back into the win column. Though Toronto has been outscored 41-23 in the last 10 contests, managed four goals in the last three and allowed 11 in the last two, faith isnt lost. I think guys are positive here, said star Phil Kessel, who has a team-leading 41 points but is mired in a season-high three-game drought. We know we have a good team here. In addition to Kessels recent struggles, center Tyler Bozak doesnt have a point in four games and three of his 30 have come over the last 10. Jonathan Bernier, who made 20 saves Wednesday and is expected to start tonight, is 1-2-0 with a 3.61 goals-against average since stopping 43 shots in a 4-0 win at Dallas on Dec. 23. Backup James Reimer has a 4.30 GAA during a four-game losing streak. Weve just got to play more consistently, said forward James van Riemsdyk, who had eight points in six games before being shutout against the Capitals. Weve shown in spurts what were capable of doing, its just a matter of finding that consistency. Kessel and Daniel Winnik, who scored his second of the season Wednesday, each had a goal with two assists and Bernier made 28 saves as TToronto snapped a three-game skid to Columbus with a 4-1 road victory Oct.dddddddddddd 31. The Blue Jackets (18-17-3), however, have won four straight at Toronto, six of seven on the road and are 12-2-1 overall since the start of December. This is a fun time right now, defenseman Kevin Connauton told the Blue Jackets official website. Connauton had a goal against his former team, Ryan Johansen scored in a career-high fourth straight contest and Mark Letestu added one after missing 28 games with a groin/abdominal injury to help Columbus to a 4-2 win at Dallas on Tuesday. Were not done, said forward Nick Foligno, who has a goal with seven assists during a five-game point streak. I am really looking forward to whats ahead of this team. Sergei Bobrovsky made 24 saves to rebound from his previous start when he was pulled for allowing every goal during Saturdays 6-3 loss at Arizona. Hes posted a 1.50 GAA while winning six straight versus Toronto. Johansen has four goals with five assists during an eight-game point streak, and four with two assists in five games against the Maple Leafs.
